Magoosh and ClassVal both prepare you for the Digital SAT, but they are built around different habits. Magoosh is mainly a paid subscription course: a library of video lessons, a question bank and practice tests you work through. ClassVal is a daily practice plan that starts free and rebuilds itself from your results. Which fits depends on whether you learn best by watching lessons or by doing questions.
If you need a topic explained from scratch, a lesson library helps. If you already know the content and keep missing the same questions, a plan built around your misses helps more.
ClassVal publishes this post, so read it with that in mind. Every Magoosh detail comes from Magoosh's own pages, checked in October 2026. Where Magoosh is the better fit, we say so.
How We Compared These
ClassVal is the publisher of this article. We compared the two products using each company's public information as of October 2026: Magoosh's SAT home page and SAT plans page, and ClassVal's own pricing and plan pages. We did not buy or test Magoosh, so this post covers what Magoosh says about itself, not how it feels to use.
Prices, promotions and features change. Confirm everything on each company's site before you pay. If we could not find something on a company's site, we say so instead of guessing.

What Magoosh Is Built Around
Magoosh's plans page describes Premium SAT as 2,500+ practice questions, up to three timed practice tests, 200+ video lessons, study schedules, a data-driven score prediction and email help from tutors. Every question has a video or text explanation. A higher plan adds 18+ hours of on-demand classes and homework assignments.
Its SAT home page also describes an AI tutor, a set of 2,000+ similar questions generated for questions you miss, and two mobile apps. That is a large amount of teaching content. If you are missing the underlying concepts, a library of 200+ lessons is a real advantage, and it is something ClassVal does not try to replicate.
How Magoosh's Guarantee Reads
Magoosh's plans page describes two protections. The first is a 7-day, no-questions-asked refund: email within 7 days of purchase for a full refund. The second is a score guarantee: complete the premium program and, per the plans page, you should see a 100-point increase, but only if your previous score was 1350 or below; otherwise you can get a refund. The plans page links to a separate score guarantee page for full terms, which we have not reproduced here.
That condition matters. A student starting at 1380 would not fall under the guarantee as the plans page describes it. Read the full terms before you rely on it.
What ClassVal Is Built Around
ClassVal's free plan gives you 35 adaptive practice questions a day, 1 full-length practice test, The Map (a daily plan that rebuilds around your results), The Lab (where missed questions wait until you can answer them again), basic AI explanations, and XP and streak tools.
Premium costs $5.99 a month and adds unlimited practice, a skill-by-skill breakdown, unlimited Coach chat and priority support. ClassVal's refund works differently from Magoosh's. Per our terms page, you log a baseline score first (an official SAT score or a Bluebook practice test score), complete your Map through your test date, and if your official total does not increase over that baseline, we refund the Premium payments for the period between baseline and test date. It does not cover other charges, and you must request it within 30 days of your score release. So the two refunds are not directly comparable, and neither one is a promise that your score will rise.
Where the Price Difference Comes From
The two products are priced for different things. Magoosh's listed price pays for a content library: lessons, explanations and optional classes. ClassVal's price pays for a practice system with no lesson library. The $49 and $5.99 figures are not directly comparable because the products are not the same shape.
Magoosh also says plans do not auto-renew and are sold for a set length of time, and that annual payment is cheaper per month. Its home page lists plans starting at $49 a month or $129 a year, which are two billing lengths, not a conflict. We could not tell from the pages which plan the $129 figure covers, so check the checkout page for your exact total and access length.

Your Next Step
- Name your gap. Concepts you never learned need lessons. Concepts you know but misapply need targeted practice.
- Take one full practice test and sort your misses by skill.
- Try the free option first. Use ClassVal's free plan or Magoosh's 7-day trial for a week.
- Read the guarantee terms on the company's site before you rely on a refund.
FAQ: Magoosh vs. ClassVal
Is Magoosh free?
Magoosh's SAT pages describe a 7-day free trial and a free practice test and score calculator. We did not find a permanent free practice plan on the pages we checked. Confirm on sat.magoosh.com.
Does Magoosh have video lessons?
Yes. Its plans page lists 200+ video lessons. ClassVal does not have a video lesson library.
Is ClassVal cheaper than Magoosh?
On list price, yes, but they are not the same product. In October 2026 the published monthly prices were $5.99 for ClassVal Premium versus $49 for Magoosh Premium SAT. They include different things, so compare what you need, not just the number.
Does Magoosh guarantee a higher score?
It offers a conditional refund tied to a 100-point increase for students who start at 1350 or below, per its plans page. ClassVal also ties its refund to your official score and finishing your plan. Read both sets of terms before you rely on either.
Should I buy lessons and practice from different places?
It can work: one source to teach a topic, another for daily practice. Pay only for what fills a gap you have named.
