PrepScholar vs. ClassVal: Pay Once for a Course, or Pay Monthly for Practice?

PrepScholar sells a lesson course with a stated score guarantee. ClassVal is free to start, then $5.99 a month. Compare pricing and fit as of October 2026.

PrepScholar and ClassVal both build around the Digital SAT, but they sell very different things. PrepScholar sells a structured course with lessons, a diagnostic and a stated score guarantee, listed at $397 for 12 months of access. ClassVal is free to start, then $5.99 per month, and is built around daily adaptive practice and a plan that updates from your results.

Decide first whether you need to be taught the material or need to practice it. A course helps with the first. A daily practice plan helps with the second.

This post is written by ClassVal, and PrepScholar's details come from its own SAT page. Where PrepScholar is the better fit, we say so.

How We Compared These

ClassVal is the publisher of this article. We compared the two products using public information as of October 2026: PrepScholar's SAT page for plans, prices, guarantee terms and feature descriptions, and ClassVal's own pricing and plan pages. We did not buy or test PrepScholar's paid plans, so this post covers what PrepScholar says about itself, not our own experience of using it.

Prices, plans and features change. Confirm everything on each company's site before you buy. If we could not find something on a company's site, we say so instead of guessing.

What PrepScholar Costs

PrepScholar's SAT page lists four options. Complete Online SAT Prep is $397 and includes 12 months of access, 90+ skill lessons, 4,700+ practice questions and the official practice tests. Complete Online SAT Prep plus an AI Learning Assistant is $495. Live Instructor-Led Classes are $895, with up to 36 hours of live classes and the $495 plan included. 1-on-1 Online Tutoring is $995, in blocks of 4, 10, 18 or 32 hours, also with the $495 plan included.

The page also lists a two-year access add-on and an ACT bundle. We are not quoting those prices because they were shown alongside discount pricing, so check the page for current numbers.

The 5-day trial on the Complete Online plans starts when you submit the diagnostic test, with a 10-day maximum from payment. PrepScholar says a pending charge is placed on your card and is not collected unless you continue. That is a real way to judge the course before committing.

What ClassVal Costs

ClassVal's free plan includes 35 adaptive practice questions a day, 1 full-length practice test, The Map, The Lab (a rotation of questions you missed), basic AI explanations, and XP and streak tools. Premium is $5.99 per month and adds unlimited practice sessions, a per-domain and skill-by-skill breakdown, unlimited Coach chat and priority support.

Two Guarantees, Read Side by Side

Both companies attach a refund to your official SAT result, and both attach conditions. Do not treat either as a promise that your score will rise. Read each company's own terms.

PrepScholar's page states a score increase guarantee. To claim it, you must complete all assigned skill lessons and practice tests, take an official SAT within 60 days of finishing the course, request the refund within 360 days of purchase, and have College Board send score reports to PrepScholar. The page says students starting under 1370 need a 160+ point gain, and students at 1370 or higher need to reach at least 1530. It also says one refund is allowed per household.

ClassVal's refund works differently. Under our terms you log a baseline score before you start, complete every scheduled Map session through your test date, take an official SAT on or after that date and log it. If your total did not increase over the baseline, we refund the Premium payments you made between the baseline and the test date. That covers a few months of $5.99, not a large purchase price, and the two refunds are not directly comparable. Neither is a reason to pick a product on its own. The practical question is whether you will finish the required work.

The Cost Math for Your Timeline

ClassVal Premium at $5.99 per month versus PrepScholar's listed $397 Complete Online price, October 2026. The ClassVal totals are simple multiplication. The table compares prices only, not contents.
How long you studyClassVal PremiumPrepScholar Complete Online
1 month$5.99$397 (12-month access)
3 months$17.97$397 (12-month access)
6 months$35.94$397 (12-month access)
12 months$71.88$397 (12-month access)

This table does not say the two products contain the same material. PrepScholar lists 90+ lessons, thousands of explained questions and up to 8 official practice tests. ClassVal's value is its free tier, its daily plan and its lower monthly price. What you get per dollar is a judgment you should make after trying both.

Where PrepScholar Is the Better Fit

  • You need the content taught. PrepScholar lists 90+ skill lessons, and ClassVal does not sell a lesson course.
  • You want a large, clearly stated question bank. PrepScholar lists 4,700+ questions with step-by-step explanations, and ClassVal does not publish a total.
  • You want several official practice tests in one package. PrepScholar lists up to 8, taken through the Bluebook app.
  • You want a human. PrepScholar sells live classes and 1-on-1 tutoring, and ClassVal does not.
  • You prefer one payment with a defined end date over a monthly charge.

Where ClassVal Is the Better Fit

  • You want to start at $0 and keep using the free plan without a trial clock.
  • You already know most of the content and need reps on your weak skills.
  • You study in short daily sessions that fit under a 35-question cap.
  • You want a daily plan that rebuilds after every session instead of a fixed weekly schedule.
  • You want to be able to stop paying in any month.

Neither product replaces the free official tools; see our guide on whether free official prep is enough before you pay.

A One-Week Test Before You Pay

  1. Day 1. Take one full-length Bluebook test and write down your score by section. Log it in ClassVal as your baseline.
  2. Day 2. Start ClassVal's free plan and let the Map set your first session. If you also want PrepScholar, take its diagnostic today so its 5-day trial window runs alongside.
  3. Days 3 to 5. Study your normal amount. Note whether you hit the 35-question cap and whether you keep wishing for a lesson on the underlying rule.
  4. Day 6. In PrepScholar's trial, read a lesson and its explanations on questions you missed. Compare that with ClassVal's explanations on the same skill.
  5. Day 7. Decide: lessons you need, or reps you need. Pick the product that matches, and stop using or cancel the other before any charge.

FAQ: PrepScholar vs. ClassVal

How much does PrepScholar SAT prep cost?

As of October 2026, PrepScholar's SAT page lists Complete Online SAT Prep at $397 with 12 months of access, the same plan with an AI Learning Assistant at $495, live classes at $895 and 1-on-1 tutoring at $995. Confirm current prices on PrepScholar's site.

Is PrepScholar built for the Digital SAT?

Yes. Its page says it covers the Digital SAT and that its interface is designed to mirror the College Board's Bluebook app. We did not test the interface ourselves.

Does PrepScholar have a free plan?

We found a 5-day trial on its Complete Online plans, not a permanent free plan, on the page we checked. ClassVal's free plan includes 35 adaptive practice questions a day.

Can I use PrepScholar and ClassVal together?

Nothing on either site prevents it. A course and a practice tool fill different gaps, so work out which gap is yours first, then pay for only one.

Does either one guarantee a higher score?

No. Both attach conditional refunds to your official score, with requirements you have to meet. Read PrepScholar's terms on its site and ClassVal's on our terms page.
