StudyType and ClassVal are both Digital SAT practice platforms you can start free. They are organized around different ideas. StudyType centers on a projected score that updates after every answer and a list of topics ranked by points you could gain. ClassVal centers on a daily plan that rebuilds from your results and the Lab, which keeps your misses in rotation.
Both tools tell you what to work on. They differ in the lead: a running score in one, a daily plan in the other. Pick the one you will actually open.
ClassVal publishes this post, so weigh it accordingly. We describe StudyType only from what its own site says, we date the key claims, and where StudyType is the better fit we say so. Prices and features change, so confirm everything on studytype.org before you pay.
How We Compared These
ClassVal is the publisher of this post, and we compared the two products using public information as of October 14, 2026. StudyType's website is a JavaScript app that did not render in our page reader, so we read the text in the scripts the site publishes (its landing page, terms and about page) and the pricing data its pricing page loads. The ClassVal details come from our own product.
We did not use StudyType's product or test its questions, so this covers what the company says about itself, not how it feels to use. If we could not find something, we say so. That is not the same as saying it does not exist.
What StudyType Says It Offers
As of October 2026, StudyType's own pages describe the following:
- A live projected score. The site says your projected score is recalculated after every answer, for Reading and Writing and for Math, on the 200 to 800 scale. It says the score can drop when you miss questions.
- Ranked topics. Topics are ranked by what you have been missing lately, and each shows how many points fixing it could add.
- A mistake queue. The site says a missed question goes back into your queue and keeps showing up until you answer it correctly.
- Digital SAT format. Two modules per section, where Module 1 decides whether Module 2 is harder or easier, with Desmos built in for Math.
- Content volume. The site lists 5,000+ practice questions, 33 lessons and 200 vocab words, module score reports and study groups.
- Access. It says it works on any laptop or Chromebook with nothing to install.
StudyType's terms call it an AI-powered SAT preparation platform. Its own FAQ also says the projected score is built from your answers and should be treated as a best current guess, to check against an official practice test now and then. That is sensible advice for any estimate, including ours.
What ClassVal Offers
As of October 2026, ClassVal is free to start with no credit card. A free account gets 35 adaptive practice questions a day, one full-length practice test, the Map, the Lab, basic AI explanations and progress tools. The Map is a daily plan that rebuilds around your results and test date. The Lab holds every missed question until you answer it correctly.
Premium is $5.99 a month. It removes the daily practice limit and adds a skill-by-skill breakdown, unlimited Coach chat and priority support. You can cancel anytime, and Premium stays on through the end of the month you paid for. ClassVal covers the Digital SAT only, has no video lesson library and no live tutors, and does not promise any score result.
Pricing Side by Side
| ClassVal | StudyType | |
|---|---|---|
| Start free? | Yes: 35 questions a day and 1 full-length test, no card | Yes: a short diagnostic and a free account that shows your projected score before you pay |
| Month to month | Premium $5.99 a month | Monthly $29 a month |
| Fixed term | None; month to month only | "Through Test Day" $49 for 3 months (listed as $16.33 a month), one payment |
| One-time | None | Lifetime $129 once |
| Cancel | Anytime; Premium stays on through the paid month | Monthly cancels anytime; 3 Months and Lifetime are one payment |
| Refund terms | Month to month; see ClassVal's Terms for details | Terms say subscriptions can be canceled for a refund within 30 days of initial purchase; we could not tell how this applies to the 3-month and lifetime plans |
Some arithmetic from those numbers. Three months of ClassVal Premium is $5.99 x 3 = $17.97, against StudyType's $49 three-month price. If you want one payment and no renewal worry, StudyType's fixed-term and lifetime options exist and ClassVal's do not. If you want the lowest monthly cost, ClassVal's is lower. We could not tell from StudyType's pages how much of the product is available on the free account beyond the diagnostic and projected score.
Feature Comparison

| Tutors | None; AI Coach chat | We found none on its pages |

Where StudyType May Be the Better Pick
- You want a number that moves. Seeing a projected score change with each answer suits students who are motivated by a running score.
- You want to see points per topic. StudyType says each topic shows how many points fixing it could add. That is a different kind of signal from a daily plan: it ranks topics by points, where the Map sequences your days.
- You want some lessons in the same place. It lists lessons and vocabulary. ClassVal has none.
- You prefer paying once. The 3-month and lifetime options are single payments.
Where ClassVal May Be the Better Pick
- You want the lowest monthly cost. $5.99 against $29 is the gap between the two monthly plans as listed.
- You want a standing free tier. 35 questions a day and a full-length test, with no card and no end date.
- You want the next step chosen for you. The Map rebuilds daily from your results and test date, so you open the app and the plan is there.
- You want to avoid a lump payment. ClassVal is month to month, and you can stop at any point.
| Your situation | What may fit |
|---|---|
| You are motivated by watching a score move | StudyType's live projected score |
| You freeze when deciding what to study | A daily plan like the Map |
| You are on a tight budget and have months to go | A free tier first, then the cheapest monthly plan |
| Your test is about three months away and you want one payment | StudyType's 3-month option, if the product suits you |
| You want to see both styles before paying | Use both free tiers for a week |
What We Could Not Verify
- How accurate StudyType's projected score is against real SAT results. Its own FAQ describes it as a best current guess.
- How much practice StudyType allows on a free account beyond the diagnostic.
- The quality of its questions and explanations, since we did not use the product.
- Whether the 5,000+ question figure counts original questions only. We repeat it as the company's own claim.
- Any tutoring or human support beyond the support contact on its site.
A Five-Day Test of Both
- Day 1. Take StudyType's free diagnostic and note your projected score. Start ClassVal's free plan.
- Days 2 to 4. Do about 20 minutes in each tool. Note which one you open more readily.
- Day 5. Ask what you did differently because of each tool. If StudyType's ranked topics changed your plan, or the Map saved you from deciding, you have your answer.
- Then. Pay for at most one, and check the current price on its own site first.
FAQ: StudyType vs ClassVal
Is StudyType free?
StudyType's site says you can take a short diagnostic and make a free account to see your projected score before you pay. We could not find how much practice the free account includes. Check its site for the latest.
How much does StudyType cost?
As of October 14, 2026, its pricing data lists $29 a month, $49 for three months, or $129 once. Prices change, so confirm on studytype.org.
Can I get a refund from StudyType?
StudyType's terms say subscriptions may be canceled for a refund within 30 days of initial purchase, and are non-refundable after that. Read the current terms before you buy.
Is a projected score the same as my real SAT score?
No. A projected score is an estimate from your practice answers. StudyType says so itself and suggests checking against an official practice test. Treat ClassVal's estimate the same way and confirm with Bluebook.
Will either one raise my score?
ClassVal does not promise it, and we found no such promise on StudyType's pages. What you gain depends on how much you practice and how carefully you review your misses.
