AI Help in SAT Prep Apps Compared: How Khanmigo, OnePrep and ClassVal Charge for It

Khanmigo, OnePrep and ClassVal each offer AI help, but they price and limit it differently. Compare how each gates it, as of October 2026.

Three products offer AI help for students: Khan Academy's Khanmigo, OnePrep's Preppy, and ClassVal's Coach. Khanmigo's pricing and learner pages do not mention SAT features, though a Khan Academy blog post lists Digital SAT topics. The clearest difference we can verify is how each one is priced and limited.

Before you pay for AI help, find out how it is metered. A weekly credit, a daily allowance and a flat subscription feel very different once you are mid-session.

How We Compared These

ClassVal publishes this article, so read it with that in mind. We compared the three using each company's public information as of October 2026: Khanmigo's home, pricing and learner pages on khanmigo.ai, a Khan Academy blog post about Khanmigo and the Digital SAT, OnePrep's pricing page and its orbs help page, and ClassVal's own product pages. ClassVal's Coach credit behavior comes from how the product works today.

We read these pages. We did not buy or use any paid plan, and we did not test answer quality, so this post says nothing about whose explanations are better. Pricing and limits change often. Confirm anything that affects your decision on the linked pages at the end.

What Khanmigo Offers

Khanmigo is Khan Academy's AI tutor. Its pricing page lists a learner plan at $4 a month or $44 a year, and lists teacher tools as free. We found no free learner tier there. Khanmigo's home page says the Khan Academy content library and learning platform "will always remain 100% free," which suggests the paid part is the AI tutor, not the lessons.

Khan's learner page says Khanmigo helps you by "never giving you the answer." That is a deliberate teaching choice, and some students will prefer it.

On the SAT specifically, the pricing and learner pages do not mention SAT features. A Khan Academy blog post about Khanmigo lists Digital SAT Math, Reading and Writing, and grammar practice among the topics it covers. We could not tell from the pages we read how Khanmigo connects to a particular SAT course, so check Khan's site before buying. We also did not find a metering or usage-limit statement on the pages we read.

What OnePrep Offers

OnePrep runs its AI features on orbs. Its help page says orbs are the credits AI features spend. Its pricing page lists the free plan with 20 orbs, 10 more per week, 500 free expert-written questions and 1 free full-length practice test. For the full free-tier comparison, see our OnePrep post linked below.

The AI-specific points: according to the help page, orbs are spent on unlocking a walkthrough (once per question) and starting a Preppy AI chat session (per session, not per message). The help page lists no orb cost for answering questions or taking practice tests. The Pro plan lists unlimited Preppy AI chat, unlimited question walkthroughs and unlimited orbs.

OnePrep's Plus and Pro plans are shown as one-time purchases with access through November 8, 2026, about a month after this post. That date matters if you are deciding now. We did not verify dollar prices this run, so check the pricing page for the current number.

What ClassVal Offers

ClassVal is built for the Digital SAT only. Its free plan gives you 35 adaptive practice questions a day, 1 full-length practice test, The Map (a daily plan that rebuilds around your results), The Lab (a rotation of questions you missed) and basic AI explanations. Premium is $5.99 per month and includes unlimited Coach chat.

Coach opens from inside a practice question, so it starts from the question you are on instead of a blank chat. ClassVal says Coach responses are grounded in your questions and study history. On a free account, Coach runs on a limited credit allowance that shows in the Coach panel; when it runs out, hints and the solution debrief stay available. ClassVal does not publish the free credit count on its marketing pages, so we are not stating one.

Who Each One Fits

If this describes youLook first at
You want a tutor that makes you work the idea out yourselfKhanmigo
You rarely need AI and want it as an occasional extraOnePrep's free orbs
You want unlimited AI help and a one-time price, and your test is before Nov 8, 2026OnePrep Pro
You want a monthly price instead of a one-time purchaseKhanmigo or ClassVal Premium
You want help tied to a daily SAT plan and your missed-question listClassVal

Khanmigo is the better fit if you want a guided tutor and a free content library behind it. OnePrep is the better fit if you want unlimited AI access for one up-front payment, keeping in mind that its Plus and Pro access is listed through November 8, 2026. ClassVal fits best when you want the AI inside a daily practice routine.

Where ClassVal is weaker: it publishes no free Coach credit count, it has no one-time purchase option, and it covers the Digital SAT only, while Khan's library and OnePrep's catalog are broader.

A One-Week Test

  1. Day 1. Note that we found no free learner tier for Khanmigo, so testing it means paying from $4 a month. OnePrep and ClassVal can be tested free.
  2. Days 2 to 5. Study your normal amount. After every miss, write one line on whether the AI changed what you would do next time.
  3. Day 6. Count how many times you wanted AI help and could not get it because of a paywall or an empty credit balance.
  4. Day 7. If the count is zero, stay on free. If it is high, pay for the product whose limit caused it.

FAQ: AI SAT Help

Is Khanmigo free for SAT prep?

Khan Academy's content library is described as always free, but Khanmigo's learner plan is listed at $4 a month or $44 a year with no free learner tier found, as of October 2026. Check khanmigo.ai for current terms and eligibility.

Does OnePrep have unlimited AI help?

Its pricing page lists unlimited Preppy AI chat and walkthroughs on the Pro plan. The free plan runs on an orb allowance, and Pro access is listed through November 8, 2026, as of October 2026.

Is ClassVal Coach free?

Free accounts get a limited credit allowance for Coach, shown in the Coach panel. Premium at $5.99 per month lists unlimited Coach chat. Hints and the solution debrief stay available after free credits run out.

Can AI replace a human SAT tutor?

We did not find a claim on these pages that AI replaces a human tutor. OnePrep walkthroughs and ClassVal Coach can respond after a missed question. A human tutor can review your overall pattern and hold you to a schedule, which is general advice rather than something these pages state. Whether you need one depends on your own results.

Should I use a general chatbot instead?

You can. Our post on using AI for SAT prep without fooling yourself covers the risks. Many general chatbots need you to paste in the questions you missed.
