The biggest differences between Magoosh and ClassVal are in how you pay and what protection comes with the payment. Magoosh lists a 12-month Premium plan with installment options, a live-class tier and a conditional score guarantee; ClassVal is free to start and charges $5.99 a month for Premium, cancel anytime, with no guarantee of any kind. This page walks through those terms so you know what to check before you pay for either.
Before you buy any SAT program, find three things on its page: the total you will pay, the exact conditions on any guarantee, and the window in which you can ask for a refund.
ClassVal publishes this page, so read it with that in mind. We describe Magoosh only from what its own website says, we date every claim, and where Magoosh is the better fit we say so. Prices and features change, so confirm everything on Magoosh's site before you pay.
How We Compared These
ClassVal is the publisher of this post. The Magoosh details come from two pages on Magoosh's public SAT website, its main SAT page and its plans page, which we read in October 2026. The ClassVal details come from our own product and Premium page. We did not buy or test Magoosh, so we report what the company says its program includes, not how well it works.
If we could not find something on a Magoosh page, we say so. That is not the same as saying Magoosh lacks it.
What Magoosh Says It Offers
As of October 2026, Magoosh's SAT pages describe a self-paced Premium plan and a Premium plan with live classes. The plans page lists Premium at $129 for a 12-month subscription, or four payments of $32.25, and Premium plus live classes at $399, or four payments of $99.75. The plans page lists 12 months of access on both. Spread out, the installment option on Premium is four payments of $32.25, which adds up to $129; on the live-class plan it is four payments of $99.75, which adds up to $399. The main SAT page separately says the full course "starts at $49 / month" and shows an annual option at $129. We could not reconcile that monthly figure with the plans page, so check the checkout page for the exact terms.
- Video lessons: both pages say 200+ video lessons.
- Practice questions: the main page says "2500+" practice questions plus "2,000+" AI-generated similar questions after you miss one. The plans page says "over 1,750" questions. The counts differ between pages, so treat them as approximate. The main page says the 2,000+ similar questions are AI-generated after you miss one.
- Practice tests: both pages say up to three timed full-length practice tests. We did not find on those pages whether they are adaptive.
- Explanations and help: the plans page lists video and/or text explanations for every question and study schedules. The main page mentions email help from experts and an AI tutor.
- Live classes: the live-class plan lists 16 hours of live instruction, with an on-demand option also mentioned on the plans page.
- Trial: a 7-day trial is listed on both pages.
- Apps: the main page links a Flashcard App and a Prep-on-the-Go App for lessons and practice questions. The plans page FAQ refers to an app by a different test's name, so confirm which app covers the SAT.
Magoosh's pages also state a "+100 point" guarantee: improve your score by 100 points or get your money back. Per its FAQ, the main page says to email within 7 days of the original purchase date to get a full refund, and the plans page says the guarantee applies after completing the premium program. We did not review the full terms, so read them in full on Magoosh's site, including what counts as completing the program, before relying on the guarantee.
What ClassVal Offers
ClassVal is free to start with no credit card. A free account gets 35 practice questions a day and one full-length adaptive test, plus your Map (a daily plan that rebuilds around your results and test date), the Lab (where missed questions wait until you answer them correctly), and a score estimate.
Premium is $5.99 a month. It removes the daily question limit and the full-length test limit, adds a skill-by-skill breakdown and session summaries, and gives unlimited Coach chat on a stronger model. You can cancel anytime, and Premium stays on through the end of the month you paid for. ClassVal is built for the Digital SAT only, it has no video lessons, and it offers no guarantee of any kind.

What the Payment Terms Mean for Your Total
Compare totals over the same stretch of time, not headline monthly numbers. Over 12 months of Premium, ClassVal would total $71.88 at $5.99 a month. That assumes you stay subscribed all year; you can cancel anytime. Magoosh's plans page lists $129 for Premium and $399 for the live-class plan, each with 12 months of access.
| Plan | Listed price | Total over 12 months |
|---|---|---|
| ClassVal Premium | $5.99 a month, cancel anytime | $71.88 if kept all 12 months |
| Magoosh Premium (plans page) | $129 for 12 months, or 4 payments of $32.25 | $129 |
| Magoosh Premium + Live Classes | $399, or 4 payments of $99.75 | $399 |
The cheaper total is not automatically the better buy. The Magoosh plans include lessons and, on the higher tier, 16 live hours. ClassVal includes neither. A short runway changes the math too: if your test is six weeks away, ClassVal Premium would cost up to two monthly charges ($11.98), while Magoosh's listed prices are for 12-month access.
Where Magoosh May Be the Better Pick
- You want content taught on video. Magoosh lists 200+ video lessons. ClassVal is practice-first and has none.
- You want a structured schedule. Magoosh lists study schedules. ClassVal's Map adapts daily rather than following a fixed curriculum.
- You want live instruction. The live-class plan lists 16 hours. ClassVal has no live classes.
- You want email access to experts. Magoosh's main page lists email help from experts. ClassVal has Coach chat, which is an AI feature, not a human tutor.
- You value a stated refund policy. Magoosh states a 100-point guarantee, subject to the conditions on its pages (completing the premium program, and a refund request within 7 days of purchase). ClassVal has nothing equivalent.
Where ClassVal May Be the Better Pick
- You mostly need reps and mistake review. The Lab holds missed questions until you get them right.
- You want to try before paying anything. The free tier needs no credit card.
- You want a low, flexible monthly cost. Premium is $5.99 a month, cancel anytime, and it stays on through the month you paid for.
- You want a plan that rebuilds itself. The Map updates each day from your results and your test date.
The official free option is also worth using alongside either tool. College Board's Bluebook app offers free full-length Digital SAT practice tests, and Khan Academy offers free official-partner practice. See the links below.
If Your Real Question Is Lessons Versus Practice
This post is about payment terms. For the broader question of whether you need a lesson-based course or a daily practice habit, our PrepScholar comparison walks through it, and the same logic applies here.
What We Could Not Verify
- Magoosh's main page and plans page give different question counts (2500+ versus over 1,750) and different price framings. We report both.
- We did not find on those pages whether Magoosh's practice tests are adaptive, or the plan names behind the "starts at $49 / month" price.
- We could not confirm which Magoosh app covers the SAT specifically.
- We did not review the full terms of Magoosh's guarantee, and we did not test either product.
A Five-Step Way to Choose
- Take one official Bluebook practice test. Note which sections and question types cost you points.
- Write down the payment facts. For each tool, note the total price, the billing schedule and the refund window.
- Open the free options. Try ClassVal's free tier and Magoosh's 7-day trial, and finish one session in each. Check whether the trial asks for a card.
- Count your weeks. A short runway leaves little time for 200 lessons.
- Read the terms before paying. Confirm price, billing and refund rules on the company's own page.
