Khan Academy SAT vs ClassVal: Do You Need a Course to Work Through or a Daily Plan?

Khan Academy's free Official Digital SAT Prep is a skills course. ClassVal is a daily practice plan. Compare structure, cost and fit as of October 2026.

Khan Academy's Official Digital SAT Prep is free, built with College Board, and organized as a course. ClassVal is free to start and organized as a daily plan. The real question is not which one is better. It is whether you learn best by working through a course or by following a plan that keeps changing with your results.

A course gives you a path to walk. A daily plan gives you the next step. Some students need the path first and the plan after.

ClassVal publishes this post, so weigh it accordingly. We describe Khan Academy only from what College Board and Khan Academy say on their own pages, we date every claim, and where Khan Academy is the better fit we say so. Features can change, so confirm everything on the official pages before you build a plan around it.

How We Compared These

ClassVal is the publisher of this post. The Khan Academy details come from College Board's page about Official SAT Prep on Khan Academy, College Board's help-center page on what the course includes, and search excerpts of Khan Academy's own help-center article for teachers, all read in October 2026. Khan Academy's main test-prep pages did not load for us, and the help-center article itself returned an access error, so we report only what those sources state. The ClassVal details come from our own product.

We did not take the course end to end or test its questions, so this covers what the sources say, not how it feels to use. If we could not find something, we say so. That is not the same as saying it does not exist.

What Khan Academy Says Its SAT Course Includes

As of October 2026, College Board's page describes the following:

  • Cost: the page says "Best of all, it's free!"
  • Courses: separate SAT Reading and Writing and SAT Math courses.
  • Course Challenge: a brief test that covers all the skills in a course, meant to help you see which areas to focus on.
  • Leveled practice: every skill is covered at three levels, Foundations, Medium and Advanced, and the page recommends working through them in that order.
  • Explanations: short video walk-throughs of example questions for each skill.
  • Quizzes and unit tests: short skill-specific quizzes and unit tests to check progress toward mastery.
  • Bluebook walk-throughs: after you take a Bluebook practice test, a walk-through course explains every question on that test and links each explanation to a related lesson.

College Board's help-center page adds that the course has a library of thousands of practice questions, videos, lessons and hints, plus guidance from Khan Academy's math, reading and writing specialists. That page does not say whether the course is adaptive, and it does not describe full-length tests, so we make no claim about either. Bluebook is College Board's official practice-test app.

What ClassVal Offers

As of October 2026, ClassVal is free to start with no credit card. A free account gets 35 practice questions a day and one full-length adaptive test, plus your Map (a daily plan that rebuilds around your results and test date), the Lab (where missed questions wait until you answer them correctly), a score estimate, and limited Coach chat paid for with coins.

Premium is $5.99 a month. It removes the daily question limit and the full-length test limit, adds a skill-by-skill breakdown, and gives unlimited Coach chat, an AI feature connected to your own study activity. You can cancel anytime, and Premium stays on through the end of the month you paid for. ClassVal covers the Digital SAT only, has no video lessons library and no live tutors, and offers no score guarantee of any kind.

Where Khan Academy Is the Better Pick

  • You want to learn the content, not just drill it. Video walk-throughs and lessons for each skill are something ClassVal does not have.
  • You want the official partner. The course is developed with College Board.
  • You want it free, in full. College Board describes the course as free, with no paid tier mentioned on the pages we read.
  • You like a clear path. Foundations, then Medium, then Advanced gives you an order to follow.
  • You are a teacher. Khan Academy's help center describes teacher reports. ClassVal is built for individual students.

Where ClassVal May Be the Better Pick

  • You finish courses but forget what you missed. The Lab keeps your misses in rotation until you answer them correctly.
  • You want a plan, not a menu. The Map rebuilds from your results and test date, so you open the app and the next step is there.
  • You want short daily reps. The free tier gives 35 questions a day.
  • You want help tied to your history. The Coach reads your own study activity.

ClassVal's limits are real: no lesson videos, Digital SAT only, and no official partnership. If you need a concept taught from zero, start with Khan Academy.

What We Could Not Verify

  • Whether Khan Academy's Digital SAT course adapts to your answers. The pages we read do not say.
  • How many questions the course contains. College Board's help page says thousands, without a number.
  • How Khan Academy's mastery and Unit Missions features handle missed questions. A help-center excerpt mentions them, and we could not read the full article.
  • How the course performs, since we did not complete it.
  • Khan Academy's current teacher-tool details beyond what search excerpts show.

A Four-Step Way to Use Both

  1. Take a Bluebook practice test. It shows you where you stand.
  2. Work through the Khan Academy walk-through for that test. Note the skills you missed.
  3. Learn the skills you do not understand on Khan Academy. Use the Foundations level first, as College Board's page suggests.
  4. Run daily practice in ClassVal. Let the Lab keep the misses in rotation until they stop coming back wrong.

FAQ: Khan Academy vs ClassVal

Is Khan Academy free for the SAT?

College Board describes Official Digital SAT Prep on Khan Academy as free. We did not find a paid tier for the course on the pages we read. Check Khan Academy's site for the latest.

Can Khan Academy be your only SAT prep?

It can be, especially for students who need content taught and will stick to a course. Pair it with Bluebook for full-length practice tests. Whether it is enough depends on your target score and how much you practice.

What does ClassVal do that Khan Academy does not?

On the pages we read, we did not find a daily plan that rebuilds from your results or a mistake queue like the Lab on Khan Academy's course. ClassVal has both. Khan Academy has video lessons that ClassVal lacks.

Can I use ClassVal and Khan Academy together?

Yes. Nothing stops you, and many students use a course for learning and a practice app for repetition.

Will either one raise my score?

Neither can promise a result, and ClassVal does not. What you gain depends on the practice you do and how carefully you review what you miss.
